Disability Discrimination & Accommodation

It's the Employer Who Has a Problem

Disability Discrimination • Failure to Accommodate

You can do the work, with maybe some special equipment or alternative arrangement. But many employers dismiss a disability or see it as an excuse to treat you unequally.

I am an employment discrimination attorney in Holbrook, Massachusetts, who has handled numerous disability discrimination cases. I have helped clients all over the South Shore recover monetary damages under state and federal laws.

If you believe you were treated illegally by an employer, including failure to hire or failure to accommodate your disability, call me at the Law Office of Doug Surprenant at 888-840-3516 for a free case evaluation.

Disability Discrimination Claims in Southern Massachusetts

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of a physical impairment, illness, or psychological disability in hiring, promotions, work assignments, discipline, harassment or termination. While the ADA requires employers to make "reasonable accommodations," some companies think that any accommodation is unreasonable.

My role is (a) to convince employers they don't have to do much or spend much to make things work, or (b) to make employers pay handsomely for unabashed discrimination or stubborn refusal to accommodate a disability.

  • One client with very severe allergies suffered needlessly because the company refused to initiate a fragrance free environment or to provide her a ventilated office.
  • One client was made fun of because of his national origin and broken English and the supervisor's just laughed along with the mocking employees; we finally found an ex-employee to confirm and the company settled.
  • Another client's depression caused him to come in late for work so we arranged a flex schedule and allowed him to do some of the work from home.
  • And one client was humiliated when a supervisor actually followed her into the bathroom to spy on her and harass her because her Krohn's disease necessitated frequent (and urgent) restroom breaks.

Whatever your disability, I am an experienced trial lawyer who will advocate fiercely for your rights, including compensation for wrongful treatment. Contact my Holbrook office for a free 30-minute consultation.
